Add a decoration
wraps your text — costs extra charactersThe short answer
TikTok's in-app text tool only styles text you burn into a video. To style your bio, caption or comments you paste Unicode characters instead. Type above, copy a style, and paste it into TikTok's bio field or caption box.
Where this works on TikTok
80 characters — the tightest limit on any major platform.
Up to 4,000 characters since the 2025 expansion.
150 characters; styled text renders normally.
Nickname accepts Unicode; the @username does not.
Paste into the in-app text box to get fonts TikTok does not offer.
The 80-character bio problem
TikTok gives you 80 characters of bio, which is less than half of Instagram's. That matters here because styled characters are not free — a bold letter is one character to TikTok's counter, but decorative wrappers, spacers and emoji brackets eat the budget fast.
If you want a styled bio that still says something, style one short line and leave the rest plain. The decorations panel below the generator is where most of the budget goes, so add those last and check the count.
Why the in-app font picker is not enough
TikTok's editor does have fonts — Classic, Typewriter, Handwriting, Serif and Neon — but they only apply to text overlays rendered into the video itself. They are pixels, not characters. They cannot be used in your bio, your captions, your comments or your display name, and they are not searchable.
Unicode goes the other way: it works everywhere text is stored, including the caption that appears under the video and the bio people read before deciding to follow.
Styled text and TikTok search
TikTok has pushed hard on search as a discovery surface, and captions are a real ranking input — keywords in the caption help the video surface for those queries. Unicode-styled words are different strings, so a caption written entirely in cursive gives search nothing to match.
The workable pattern: plain, keyword-carrying first line, styled accent line underneath. You keep the aesthetic and the searchability.
Frequently asked questions
How do I get different fonts on TikTok?
For your bio, caption or comments, generate the text above and paste it in — TikTok has no font setting for those fields. For text inside a video, use TikTok's own editor font picker.
Why does my TikTok bio cut off?
The bio limit is 80 characters. Decorative wrappers and emoji count towards it, so a heavily decorated bio hits the cap quickly.
Can I change my TikTok username font?
Your display name (nickname) accepts Unicode. The @username is restricted to letters, numbers, underscores and periods, so it cannot be styled.
Does styled text hurt TikTok SEO?
Yes, for the styled words specifically — TikTok search matches characters, and styled letters are different characters. Keep your keywords in plain text.
Do these fonts work on the TikTok app for iPhone and Android?
Yes. They are standard Unicode, so they render on both. A small number of the enclosed-letter styles pick up emoji colouring on certain Android builds.
