wraps your text — costs extra charactersThe short answer
Reddit comment and post bodies support markdown, so use ** ** for real bold there. Post titles, user flair and display names do not support markdown — for those, paste Unicode characters generated above.
Where this works on Reddit
300 characters, and markdown is stripped — Unicode is the only option.
64 characters typically, set per subreddit.
30 characters; your u/ username itself cannot be styled.
Markdown works here, so prefer it.
Titles are where Unicode matters on Reddit
Reddit renders post and comment bodies as markdown, which means real bold, italics, headers, quotes and code blocks. That is proper formatting and you should use it — it is accessible and it copies cleanly.
Titles are the exception. Reddit strips markdown from titles, so the only way to make a word stand out in a title is to use characters that are already styled. This is also why styled titles are a well-known way to attract attention on a busy subreddit — and why many subreddits ban them outright in their rules.
Check the subreddit rules first
A meaningful number of large subreddits explicitly prohibit non-standard characters in titles, usually filed under “no clickbait” or “titles must be plain”. Automoderator can and does remove posts on a character-class check, so a styled title can be auto-deleted within seconds of posting.
Flair is generally safer — it is often styled by the subreddit itself — and profile display names are unrestricted.
Frequently asked questions
Can you use fancy fonts in a Reddit title?
Technically yes, because Reddit strips markdown but keeps Unicode. Many subreddits ban it in their rules and remove such posts automatically, so check before posting.
How do I bold text on Reddit?
In a comment or post body, wrap it in double asterisks — Reddit's markdown gives you real bold. In a title, markdown does not work, so you need Unicode.
Can I change my Reddit username font?
The u/ username is fixed to standard characters. Your profile display name accepts Unicode.
Does old.reddit.com render these?
Yes. Both the old and new interfaces render Unicode identically, since it is stored as plain text.
